Merritt Island brings an 8–0 record and a 4–0 district mark into Friday’s home game against Rockledge. The 7 p.m. matchup on Oct. 23 leads this week’s Brevard varsity football watch list, with the Mustangs looking to finish their five-game Class 3A, District 8 schedule unbeaten.

The week starts Thursday, Oct. 22, with Tradition Prep at Satellite and Real Life Christian at Calvary Chapel Academy, both at 7 p.m. Calvary’s game is at Melbourne Central Catholic’s field. Friday also brings Titusville–Astronaut and unbeaten Raines’ visit to Cocoa. Records and results below are from MaxPreps schedules checked Wednesday, Oct. 21; school notices confirm the Thursday dates and Calvary venue.

Rockledge at Merritt Island — Friday, 7 p.m.

Merritt Island has scored at least 35 points in each of its eight wins, most recently 56–12 at Palm Bay. Rockledge is 1–7 overall and 1–3 in the district after a 42–41, three-overtime loss at Astronaut. The Mustangs’ school schedule lists Friday as senior night at home.

Rockledge’s close finish at Astronaut is a different recent sign from its earlier district losses to Eau Gallie, 47–0, and Titusville, 41–13. The question is whether the Raiders can keep pace with a Merritt Island team that has sustained its scoring against opponents including Melbourne, Ponte Vedra and Eau Gallie. A close game would require Rockledge to change the pattern of those earlier district defeats.

Other games to watch

Titusville at Astronaut — Friday, 7 p.m., Titusville

The Terriers are 6–3 and the War Eagles 5–3, but both are 2–2 in Class 3A, District 8. Astronaut has won three straight, beating Space Coast 29–18, Palm Bay 35–0 and Rockledge 42–41 in three overtimes. Titusville’s two-game winning run ended with a 30–13 loss to Eau Gallie last Friday.

Rockledge gives the crosstown opponents a useful comparison: Titusville won 41–13 on Oct. 9, while Astronaut needed three overtimes a week later. Those separate games do not decide this matchup. Watch whether Astronaut can extend its winning run against a Titusville team that has scored at least 41 points in each of its last three victories.

Raines at Cocoa — Friday, 7 p.m., Cocoa

Cocoa is 3–4 after beating Centennial 48–0 and Space Coast 49–7. Raines arrives from Jacksonville at 8–0, with a 20–17 win over Venice and a 48–3 win over Bishop Kenny among its recent results. The Vikings’ latest result was 48–0 over Riverside.

Cocoa’s last two games produced 97 team points, but Raines has held every opponent to 17 or fewer. Whether the Tigers can carry their recent scoring into this matchup is the central test. The schedules differ substantially, so the two big Cocoa wins alone are not a forecast against an unbeaten opponent.

Holy Trinity at Space Coast — Friday, 7 p.m., Cocoa

Holy Trinity is 6–2 after consecutive 50–0 wins over The Master’s Academy and Centennial. Space Coast is 6–3 after its 49–7 loss to Cocoa. The Vipers had shut out Cocoa Beach 35–0 the week before. This meeting tests whether Space Coast can recover against another county opponent, while Holy Trinity tries to turn its recent scoring into a third straight win.

Thursday’s games

Tradition Prep at Satellite — 7 p.m., Satellite Beach. The 8–0 Scorpions have allowed 28 points across eight games and last played Oct. 9, winning 35–0 at Bayside. Tradition Prep is 1–6 after a 38–6 loss to Coral Springs Charter. Satellite’s school notice identifies Thursday as its homecoming game. The question is whether the Scorpions can sustain that run of limiting points after an idle week.

Real Life Christian at Calvary Chapel — 7 p.m., Melbourne Central Catholic field, Melbourne. Calvary is 6–2 after losses to Merritt Island Christian, 22–12, and Saint Francis Catholic Academy, 57–6. Real Life is 5–3 and also has lost its last two. Both beat City of Life earlier: Calvary 34–20 and Real Life 36–0. That common opponent supplies context for an eight-man matchup in which both teams are trying to stop a losing streak.

The rest of the district picture

Eau Gallie, 5–3 overall and 3–1 in Class 3A, District 8, hosts Palm Bay, 2–6 and 0–4, on Friday at 7 p.m. The Commodores won 30–13 at Titusville last week; the Pirates lost 56–12 to Merritt Island. In Class 5A, District 5, Melbourne, 6–2 and 3–1, hosts Lyman, 2–6 and 1–3, while Viera, 3–4 and 1–2, hosts East River, 0–8 and 0–4. Both games are Friday at 7 p.m.

FHSAA’s football manual counts district games separately from the overall record. Its postseason rules use final MaxPreps rankings for regional seeding and to select the eight Open Division teams. This week’s records and midseason ranking positions are not assigned playoff seeds.
