The Brevard County Women’s Golf Team finished in second place at the Space Coast Classic, held at the Cocoa Dunes Golf Course on March 10. The tournament, which drew 24 teams from across the state, saw the local squad post a combined score of 286, trailing only the University of Florida’s team by six strokes. The Space Coast Classic, a perennial fixture in the spring golf calendar, drew praise from participants for its challenging layout and well-maintained fairways. Team captain Maria Lopez said the result was a ‘huge step forward’ for the group, which includes several high school and college players. ‘We came in with a clear goal of finishing in the top three, and we hit every shot we needed to,’ Lopez said. The team’s performance included standout rounds from junior golfer Emily Chen, who shot a tournament-low 72 on the final day. The victory went to the University of Florida, which finished with a score of 280, while the University of Central Florida took third place with 292. The Brevard team will next compete in the Florida State Championship on April 15.
