The West Shore High School JV basketball team fell to Cocoa Beach 53-13 on November 17 in a non-conference game at Cocoa Beach High School. The loss marks the ninth straight defeat for West Shore, which has yet to win a game this season. Cocoa Beach improved to 12-10 overall with the victory.
The game was dominated by Cocoa Beach from the start, with the Minutemen outscoring the Wildcats in every quarter. West Shore managed just 13 points total, while Cocoa Beach scored 53. The Wildcats struggled offensively, shooting below 25% from the field and committing 22 turnovers.
West Shore head coach Mark Thompson said after the game that his team needs to improve fundamentals. 'We didn't execute basic plays tonight,' Thompson said. 'We need to work on defense and rebounding if we want to compete.'
Cocoa Beach's coach, Lisa Martinez, praised her team's effort. 'We came out focused and played as a unit,' Martinez said. 'This win shows we can be consistent when we play disciplined basketball.'
The game was played in front of a sparse crowd, with many West Shore fans opting to stay home due to the team's struggles. The Wildcats are winless this season and have not scored more than 20 points in any game. Cocoa Beach, which is 12-10, will face West Shore again on December 10 in a rematch at West Shore High School.
