West Shore High School's girls basketball team dropped a non-conference game to Viera 57-48 on December 11 at Viera High School. The loss extends West Shore's record to 16-7 on the season, while Viera improves to 17-8. The game was part of a scheduled matchup between the two Brevard County schools, with neither team playing in the same conference.
The Wildcats struggled offensively, scoring just 48 points across four quarters. Viera's Hawks dominated in the second half, outscoring West Shore 28-20 in the final two quarters. West Shore coach Jamie Carter said after the game that his team's defense held Viera to 12 fewer points than their average, but the offense failed to capitalize on scoring chances.
Viera's win moves them closer to a potential playoff berth in the 5A classification. The Hawks have defeated six of their last seven opponents, including a 62-55 upset over Palm Bay last week. West Shore, meanwhile, remains in the middle of the 5A East standings after a 10-game winning streak ended last month.
The game drew a crowd of over 200 fans, many of whom were students from both schools. Viera's bench celebrated loudly after the final buzzer, while West Shore players lingered on the court for several minutes. The next game for West Shore is a home matchup against Satellite High on December 18.
