WakitRakit has launched a padel court in Titusville’s Riverside Park, marking the first such facility in Brevard County. The sport, a fast-growing hybrid of tennis and squash, now has a dedicated space for residents to play. 'If you are not having fun, you are doing it wrong,' said Tennis Tonic, a local group promoting racket sports. The court opened last month after months of planning by WakitRakit, a fitness company based in Melbourne.
The facility features two indoor courts with glass walls and LED lighting, designed for year-round use. WakitRakit’s CEO, Maria Lopez, said the project aimed to fill a gap in the community. 'We saw demand for something new but accessible,' she said. The courts are open to the public for $15 per hour, with lessons available through local instructors.
Tennis Tonic, which organized a free introductory clinic last week, praised the initiative. 'Padel is social, fast-paced, and easy to learn,' said group co-founder James Carter. 'It’s perfect for families and beginners.' The clinic drew about 50 participants, many of whom had never played the sport before.
The courts are part of a broader push to expand recreational options in Titusville. City officials noted the facility aligns with a 2023 plan to increase outdoor activity spaces. 'This is a win for our community,' said Titusville Parks Director Lisa Nguyen. 'We’re seeing more interest in sports that combine fitness with fun.'
WakitRakit plans to host weekly tournaments starting in February. The company also hopes to partner with schools for after-school programs. For now, the focus remains on accessibility. 'We want people to try it without pressure,' Lopez said. 'If you’re laughing, you’re doing it right.'
