Voting is now open for the first Boys Athlete of the Week of the 2026-27 school year, with five nominees from Brevard County highlighted for their performances during the week of Aug. 17-22. The deadline to cast a ballot is noon on Thursday, Aug. 27. The ballot is available at the bottom of the Florida Today page, and users should refresh if it doesn’t load initially. Coaches and athletic directors can nominate athletes by emailing [email protected] with accomplishments from the previous Monday through Saturday by 10 a.m. each Sunday.

Noah Childrey of Rockledge finished 14th at the Cecil Field Summer Classic on Aug. 21 with a time of 15:56 in cross country’s first meet of the season. Jay Craft of Cocoa Beach led his team to a 43-0 road win at Discovery on Aug. 21, completing 8 of 10 passes for 226 yards and 5 touchdowns. That performance marked the Minutemen’s first 2-0 start since 2012. Tyrese Jefferson of Melbourne shattered his career high with 314 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 35-10 win at Heritage on Aug. 21. Jefferson accounted for 31 of Melbourne’s 314 rushing attempts.

Liam Justiniano of Viera threw a perfect 300 in a bowling dual against Pineapple Cove West on Aug. 20 at Shore Lanes Palm Bay. That was Justiniano’s first career perfect game. Trenton Washington of Melbourne Central Catholic also earned a nomination, though specific stats for his performance were not detailed in the report. The nominees represent a mix of sports, including football, cross country, bowling, and swimming and diving, as the high school season enters its first full week.

Voters can access the ballot through Florida Today’s website. The winner will be announced after the voting closes on Aug. 27. Coaches are encouraged to submit nominations for future weeks by the weekly deadline. The process allows the community to recognize standout performances across Brevard County’s high schools.
