The PuroClean of Melbourne Girls Athlete of the Week voting is open through noon on Thursday, April 30. Ballots are available at floridatoday.com, with votes restricted to once per device per hour. The winner for the previous week was Kellibelle Bono of Merritt Island Christian softball. Coaches and athletic directors can nominate athletes by emailing [email protected] by 10 a.m. each Sunday with details of accomplishments from the prior Monday through Saturday.
This week’s nominees include Marguerite Begley of Edgewood lacrosse, who scored two goals and recorded an assist in a 7-6 playoff win over The First Academy on April 22. Maison Lelievre of Melbourne Central Catholic softball drove in four runs with two hits in a 4-1 victory over Merritt Island on the same date. Madison Minch of Astronaut softball pitched seven innings, allowing five runs but only one earned, striking out four in a 6-5 win over Lake Mary on April 21.
Rindi Amos of Merritt Island softball limited opponents to one unearned run on a single hit with nine strikeouts in an 11-1 win over Bayside on April 21. Christina Jones of Rockledge track dominated the District 13-3A championships, winning the 100m (12.19 seconds) and 200m (24.83 seconds) as the Raiders claimed the team title. Keri Shea of Merritt Island Christian softball had four hits, including a double and triple, and drove in three runs in a 17-4 win over Holy Trinity on April 20.
Shea Young of Viera softball pitched seven innings, allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts in a game against Seminole on April 23.
