Voting for the PuroClean of Melbourne Girls Athlete of the Week is underway through noon on Thursday, April 9. The honor recognizes standout performances from March 30 to April 5, with ballots available at 321preps.com and floridatoday.com. Votes are limited to once per device per hour, and the deadline to submit nominations for future weeks is 10 a.m. each Sunday via email to [email protected]. Last week’s winner was Layna Ayala of Melbourne softball.
Celina Coryell of Satellite High led the field with two record-breaking runs at the FSU Invitational on March 27-28. She shattered her own school record in the 3200m with a time of 10:30.0, also setting a new Cape Coast Conference mark. Two days later, she ran the 1600m in 4:54.42, breaking a school record that had stood since 2009. Emily Lowe of Bayside softball pitched seven shutout innings against Rockledge on March 30, allowing four hits while striking out 10 in a 6-0 victory.
Peyton West of Melbourne Central Catholic had three hits, a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored in a 16-1 win over Cocoa on March 30. Bailey Furst of Titusville softball contributed two triples, four RBIs, and two runs in a 21-0 rout of Palm Bay on March 31. Gracen Baker of Viera softball added two hits, a double, a triple, and three RBIs in an 8-5 win over St. Cloud the same day. Ana Muniz of Space Coast softball had two singles and two RBIs in a game against Cocoa on April 1.
Coaches and athletic directors can nominate athletes each week by emailing accomplishments from the prior Monday through Saturday to [email protected] by 10 a.m. Sunday. The current ballot includes six nominees, with voting restricted to prevent tampering. Results will be announced after the deadline, with the next nomination period opening immediately afterward.
