Voting for the PuroClean of Melbourne Girls Athlete of the Week is open until noon on Thursday, March 19. The ballot is available at 321preps.com and floridatoday.com. Last week’s winner was Izzy Gambill of Eau Gallie softball. This week’s nominees include athletes from Melbourne, Cocoa, Satellite, Viera, and Eau Gallie.

Layna Ayala of Melbourne softball hit three runs, four hits, four RBI, and one home run in the Bulldogs’ win over Viera on March 12. She also hit a home run in the team’s March 11 victory over Centennial. I'Yana Barnes of Cocoa track and field won the 100 meters (12.73 seconds) and 100 hurdles (16.04 seconds) at the Viera High School Invitational 2 on March 12.

Bailey Madsen of Satellite track and field placed first in the shot put (34 feet, 3 inches), discus (108 feet, 9 inches), and javelin (114 feet, 5 inches) at the same invitational. Katie Manning of Viera tennis won No. 1 singles matches against St. Cloud and Vero Beach last week. Evie Martin of Eau Gallie softball went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs, three hits, six RBI, and one home run in the team’s March 9 win over Rockledge. She also struck out eight batters in that game.

Coaches and athletic directors can nominate athletes by emailing [email protected] by 10 a.m. each Sunday with accomplishments from the previous Monday through Saturday.
