Voting for the PuroClean of Melbourne Girls Athlete of the Week is underway through Thursday, May 7, with ballots available at 321preps.com and floridatoday.com. The poll will close at noon, and each device is limited to one vote per hour. The last winner was Marguerite Begley of Edgewood lacrosse, who claimed the title in the previous cycle. Coaches and athletic directors can nominate athletes each week by emailing [email protected] with accomplishments from the prior Monday through Saturday by 10 a.m. each Sunday.
This week's nominees include Lilly Rollinger of MCC softball, who went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and pitched a complete game, allowing just one run and striking out three in a 7-1 win over Space Coast in the District 8-2A championship on April 29. Ana Muniz of Space Coast softball also earned a spot with 2 hits, a double, and 2 RBI in a 7-2 first-round playoff victory over Trinity Prep on April 27. Abigail Latulippe of Eau Gallie softball hit a home run and triple, drove in 2 runs, and scored twice in an 11-1 win during the District 8-4A playoffs on the same day.
Keira Merrick of Satellite track and field dominated the Class 3A, Region 4 meet by winning the 800m with a time of 2:13.21 and contributing to the second-place 4x800 relay team. Bella Tenta of Bayside softball hit a solo home run and a 2-run single in a 4-2 District 13-5A championship win over Sebastian River on April 30. Riley Miller of Astronaut softball pitched 5 innings, allowing only one hit with 12 strikeouts and added 2 hits, including a 2-run homer, in a 14-0 win over Co.
