Viera High School's volleyball team swept Spruce Creek 3-0 in a Sept. 1 match at Viera High's courts. The win marked the first of the season for the Lady Knights, who outlasted their rivals in a tightly contested first set before dominating the final two.
The game featured several key plays, including a block by Viera's Ava Sarratt and Brighton O’Brien that stopped Spruce Creek's Khloe Jackson near the net. Addi Casey contributed with a precise tip over Evelyn Webb, while Allie Brown's serve set the tone early in the second set. Samantha Wasdin powered a spike past Leighton Moody to give Viera a crucial lead in the third set.
Coach Sarah Wayne praised her team's defense after the match. 'We focused on communication and staying disciplined,' she said. 'The girls executed our game plan, especially in the second and third sets.' Viera's Emery Hart also highlighted the team's effort, noting the importance of their freshman cheerleaders' energetic performance during timeouts.
Spruce Creek struggled to find consistency, with Danecca Sampson unable to contain Viera's offensive plays. The Lady Knights' victory improves their record to 1-0 on the season, setting the stage for their next match against West Port on Sept. 6. Fans filled the stands, cheering as Viera sealed the win with a final spike by Wasdin in the third set.
