Viera High School football players began their 2026 season on July 27 with their first practice at the school's field. Head coach Tony Gulla led the team through drills under the summer sun. The team worked on fundamentals including blocking, tackling, and route running. Players arrived before 8 a.m. for the session. "We’re focused on building chemistry early," Gulla said. "This is the foundation for the whole season." The practice lasted two hours and included team meetings. Parents and community members watched from the sidelines. The Viera Hawks are entering their third year under Gulla’s leadership. The team finished 6-4 in 2025. Viera’s home games will be held at the school’s 10,000-seat stadium. The first home game is August 20 against Palm Bay. The team has 45 players on its roster this season. "We have a lot of returning talent," said senior quarterback Jake Martinez. "But we’re not complacent." The practice included a 30-minute warm-up followed by position-specific drills. Coaches emphasized discipline and conditioning. Viera’s football program has grown in popularity since 2023. The school’s athletic director reported a 20% increase in student participation this year. The team will compete in the Florida High School Athletic Association’s 6A classification. "We’re ready to work," said junior linebacker Marcus Lopez. "This is our time."
