The Velocity 321 volleyball team from Titusville swept the Cape Coast Club Tournament on March 21, winning three matches across different age categories. The one-day AAU event at the Palm Bay Community Center drew over 200 players, with Velocity 321 securing first place in the 14U, 16U, and 18U divisions. Coaches and players said the team's focus on fundamentals and communication set them apart from competitors.
The tournament began at 9 a.m. with the 10U division, but attention shifted to Velocity 321's matches in the afternoon. In the 14U bracket, they defeated the Starlings Volleyball Team 25-18, 25-20. The team's setter, 15-year-old Emily Carter, said their preparation during spring break gave them an edge. 'We practiced blocking and passing every day,' she said. 'It showed today.'
Velocity 321 faced the Zero Gravity Volleyball Team in the 16U division, winning the first set 25-19 but struggling in the second. Coach Mark Reynolds called a timeout, and the team regrouped to win 25-22. 'We trust each other,' Reynolds said. 'That's why we keep winning.'
The 18U match against the Space Coast Vortex team was the closest of the day, with Velocity 321 taking the final set 26-24. Fans in the stands cheered as the team celebrated on the court, with players high-fiving and hugging. The victory marked their third straight tournament win since forming in 2024. 'This means a lot to the community,' said team captain Jake Martinez, 17. 'We're showing what Titusville can do.'
