Two young mixed-breed puppies were pulled from a cage in an empty lot in Titusville on Sunday afternoon, authorities said. The dogs, estimated to be 8 and 10 months old, were discovered huddled together at the corner of Union Street and Wager Avenue, exposed to the elements as severe weather approached. The SPCA of Brevard intervened quickly to save the animals before the storm worsened.
A witness posted a photo of the dogs online, sparking a wave of social media pleas for help. The SPCA said it had no choice but to act fast. "It’s really just horrible," said Susan Naylor, Executive Director of the SPCA of Brevard. "That storm was really, really crazy." The dogs were taken to the SPCA facility, where staff described them as high-energy and now receiving the care they need.
The puppies are not microchipped, making it difficult to trace their original owner. Naylor said the SPCA has posted about the dogs in hopes of finding someone to claim them but has received no leads. "They’re just these cute little puppies, and hopefully we’ll be able to find somebody to take care of them," she said. The animals are now safe but remain in the SPCA’s care until their owner comes forward or a new home is found.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Officials said the dogs were allegedly abandoned, and authorities are asking the public for any information that could help identify the person responsible. Tips can be submitted through the sheriff’s office or the SPCA of Brevard.
