A student is recovering after being struck and trapped beneath an SUV in Titusville earlier this week. The incident occurred near the intersection of Saturn Boulevard and Astronaut Road around 3:45 p.m. according to Titusville Police Department. The student was extricated from the vehicle by fire department personnel and transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The SUV involved in the crash was driven by a 42-year-old Titusville man who was taken to Brevard General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police are investigating whether the driver was speeding or failed to yield to the pedestrian. The student is a sophomore at Titusville High School, school officials confirmed.

Principal Lisa Martinez said the school is providing counseling services to affected students. 'Our thoughts are with the student and their family,' she said in a statement. The crash site remains closed for investigation.

Witnesses reported seeing the SUV swerve before hitting the student. Emergency responders arrived within five minutes of the 911 call. The student was trapped for approximately 20 minutes before being freed.

Titusville Police have not yet filed charges but are reviewing traffic camera footage. The student is expected to be released from the hospital by Friday.
