Florida State Rep. Anna Eskamani has called for the suspension of a promoter's license and the blocking of future events tied to a recent kickboxing show in Orlando. The move follows allegations of unsanctioned fights and safety violations during the event at Duel Arena, a popular venue in the city's downtown area. Eskamani, who represents parts of Orange County, said the incidents raised serious questions about the oversight of combat sports in the state.
The representative cited eyewitness accounts and videos shared on social media showing what she described as 'chaotic' conditions during the event. One clip showed a fighter appearing to be struck outside the ring, prompting calls for stricter regulation. 'When the safety of participants and fans is at risk, we must act,' Eskamani said in a statement. 'This isn't just about one event—it's about systemic failures in our licensing process.'
Duel Arena's promoter, who did not immediately respond to requests for comment, has faced scrutiny before. The venue has hosted multiple combat sports events since opening in 2021, but this is the first time a state legislator has publicly called for license action. Local officials have not yet commented on the allegations, though the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation oversees combat sports licenses.
Eskamani's office said the representative will introduce legislation next week to expand oversight of event promoters and require more rigorous background checks for security personnel. 'We need transparency and accountability,' she added. 'Fans deserve to know their safety is prioritized, not just profits.'
