SpaceX is preparing to launch its first Falcon Heavy rocket in more than 18 months on Monday, April 27, from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center. The launch window opens at 10:21 a.m. ET and lasts 85 minutes. If conditions are not favorable, a backup opportunity is available Tuesday, April 28, with an 85-minute window starting at 10:17 a.m. ET. The mission will carry the ViaSat-3 F3 satellite to geosynchronous transfer orbit. This is the third and final satellite in the ViaSat-3 constellation, designed to expand global broadband coverage. The satellite will be deployed approximately 32 minutes after liftoff, according to SpaceX's flight plan. The Falcon Heavy's two side boosters will attempt landings on SpaceX's drone ships in the Atlantic Ocean following stage separation. One booster previously supported the SDA-0A, SARah-2, Transporter-11, and 18 Starlink missions, while the other previously launched the GOES-U weather satellite. The core stage will be the first Falcon Heavy first stage to fly three missions, having previously supported the Transporter-5 and Transporter-11 missions. SpaceX's launch team has been conducting final checks at the Kennedy Space Center, with teams stationed at the launch pad and mission control. The launch will be visible from much of Florida's east coast, with optimal viewing locations near Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral. The mission marks the first Falcon Heavy launch since December 2024 and follows a series of Starlink and government satellite deployments. SpaceX has not yet confirmed whether the launch will be live-streamed on its official channels, but the Space Coast Daily will broadcast the event on its TV platform. The ViaSat-3 satellites are expected to provide low-latency internet services to underserved regions, including parts of Africa and South America. The Falcon Heavy's payload capacity for this mission is estimated at 63,800 kilograms to low Earth orbit, making it one of the most powerful operational rockets in the world.
