The rocket, carrying a payload of Starlink satellites, lifted off at 10:30 a.m. and reached orbit within nine minutes. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted shortly after the launch, stating the mission was 'textbook' and confirming the satellites had deployed correctly. The launch comes amid increased activity at the Kennedy Space Center, where SpaceX has secured a long-term lease for future operations.
Brevard County Commissioner Jerry Honoré said the launch reinforces the region’s role as a hub for aerospace innovation. 'This is a win for our community,' he said. 'Every launch reminds us why Brevard is the Space Coast.' Local businesses reported a surge in visitors to the area, with some hotels booking rooms months in advance for future launches.
SpaceX has conducted 12 launches from Brevard since 2010, but this year’s mission is notable for its focus on expanding the Starlink broadband network. The satellites will provide internet access to rural and underserved areas, a goal Musk has emphasized in recent interviews. The company plans to conduct at least two more launches from the county this year.
Residents near the launch site described the event as a 'once-in-a-lifetime' experience. 'You can feel the ground shake and hear the roar of the engines,' said Sarah Mitchell, a teacher from Titusville. 'It’s humbling to see what’s happening right here in our backyard.'
