SpaceX has scrubbed its planned Starlink launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, pushing the mission to Friday due to unfavorable weather conditions. The original launch window, which opened Tuesday, was halted by persistent cloud cover and high winds, according to the 45th Space Wing. The rescheduled attempt will use the same Falcon 9 rocket and Crew Dragon spacecraft previously prepared for the mission. SpaceX officials have not specified a new exact launch time but confirmed the shift to Friday.

The delay comes as part of a broader pattern of weather-related setbacks for the space company this month. Earlier this week, a planned Starlink launch from nearby Kennedy Space Center was also postponed due to thunderstorms. Both sites are operated by the U.S. Space Force, which coordinates launch schedules with commercial providers. The scrubbed mission was intended to deploy 52 Starlink satellites, part of SpaceX’s effort to expand global broadband coverage. The satellites are built at the company’s facility in Redmond, Washington, and will be controlled from a ground station in Titusville, Florida.

The rescheduling highlights the challenges of launching from Florida’s east coast, where tropical weather systems frequently disrupt operations. SpaceX has conducted over 200 Starlink launches since 2019, but each mission requires precise timing to avoid delays. A spokesperson for the company said the team is working to ensure the Falcon 9’s first stage booster, which is expected to land at Cape Canaveral’s Landing Zone 1, is ready for reuse. The booster, designated B1062, has previously supported multiple missions, including a 2022 crewed flight to the International Space Station.

Local officials in Brevard County have expressed support for the rescheduled launch, noting the economic and technological benefits of SpaceX’s operations. The company employs over 6,000 people in the area, many of whom work at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station or SpaceX’s nearby headquarters. The Starlink mission is expected to generate additional activity at the Port Canaveral seaport, where rocket components are transported via barge. The next launch window opens at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, pending final weather assessments.
