The company launched another batch of Starlink satellites from California on Tuesday, but its focus remains on preparing for Starship missions at Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. A key part of this effort is the 380-foot-tall Gigabay assembly facility under construction at Launch Complex 39A, which will handle Starship processing for launches from Florida. "I would keep my eyes on that Gigabay facility," said Dr. Don Platt of Florida Tech. "If it looks like it’s finishing up, then you know they’re ramping up operations here." The facility’s progress is seen as a strong indicator of SpaceX’s commitment to Florida as a launch site. However, experts note that Florida’s timeline depends on Starship test flights continuing in Texas. "We need at least two more successful test flights from Texas before Florida operations can begin," Platt said. SpaceX’s COO Gwynne Shotwell previously told CNBC a Starship launch from Florida could happen as early as this fall, but only after Texas tests confirm the vehicle’s readiness. Construction at both Florida sites is progressing rapidly, with SpaceX expanding its presence in ways that could redefine launch operations on the Space Coast. The company has not provided a firm date for Florida’s first Starship launch, but officials say the Gigabay facility’s completion is a critical step.
