Elon Musk became the world's first person to reach $1 trillion in net worth after SpaceX's initial public offering on June 12, 2026. The IPO has already spurred plans for a million AI satellites and billions in new investments across Brevard County. SpaceX has launched 10,000 Starlink satellites since 2019, but Musk's latest goal—deploying a million AI-powered satellites in two years—promises to reshape the Space Coast's economy. The satellites will use solar energy and create orbital data centers, according to SpaceX officials.

The company is currently building a $1.8 billion launch facility called Gigabay near NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The 116-meter-tall structure at HangarX will have cranes capable of lifting 400 metric tons, double the current capacity. It will prepare and maintain the Super Heavy rocket module, which stands 81 meters tall and will be the first fully reusable launch system. The facility's 76,000-square-meter footprint and 1.3 million cubic meters of space will allow SpaceX to increase flight frequency.

SpaceX also plans to complete construction of a new launch pad at Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39A this year. Environmental studies are ongoing, but the pad will include a cooling and noise suppression system. The project could support hundreds of new jobs in Brevard County, which has seen a 20% rise in tech sector employment since 2020.

Local officials say the investments will bring more skilled jobs and economic growth. "This is about creating opportunities for residents while advancing space technology," said Brevard County Commissioner Margaret Smith. SpaceX's expansion has already drawn interest from other tech firms considering relocation to the Space Coast.
