SpaceX is building the Gigabay facility at Kennedy Space Center, a key hub for Starship operations that will support NASA's Artemis program and private satellite missions. The 380-foot-tall structure is rising on Robert’s Road within KSC, visible from Titusville across the Indian River. Construction began in Fall 2025 and is set for completion by August 2026, with the facility positioned near NASA's Vehicle Assembly Building. The project was first outlined in February 2025 through a Federal Aviation Administration document.
The Gigabay will serve as a maintenance and preparation site for Starship's 232-foot-tall Super Heavy boosters, similar to SpaceX's Texas facility. While Starship currently launches from Texas, the company plans to use Florida sites for future missions, including Pad 39A at KSC and Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. NASA's Artemis program may use Starship as a lunar lander as early as 2028, aligning with the facility's timeline.
The structure's black metal siding and height make it a noticeable addition to the KSC landscape, though it remains shorter than the 525-foot Vehicle Assembly Building. SpaceX is also preparing for the first Starship launch from Florida, with work progressing on both KSC and Cape Canaveral sites. The Gigabay's completion will mark a shift in Starship operations, expanding SpaceX's footprint on the Space Coast.
Public visibility of the facility is a key aspect, offering clear views of SpaceX's activities near Cape Canaveral. With Starship's role in lunar missions and satellite deployments, the Gigabay will support both government and commercial operations.
