A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off at 3:49 a.m. Wednesday from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, carrying three BlueBird 11, 12, and 13 satellites for AST SpaceMobile. The launch occurred during the Buck Moon's waning gibbous phase, with the rocket's first stage landing at Space Launch Complex 13. The satellites are part of a low-Earth orbit constellation designed to provide cellular broadband services. The mission marks the first flight of AST SpaceMobile's BlueBird Block 2 satellites. SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket has completed over 100 launches from the Space Coast since 2010. AST SpaceMobile aims to expand global coverage by deploying more than 300 satellites by 2027. The company's CEO, Bill Glover, said the launch is a step toward bridging connectivity gaps in remote regions. The satellites will operate in polar orbits, allowing coverage over high-latitude areas. The launch was visible across much of Brevard County, with bright plumes captured in time-exposure photographs. AST SpaceMobile's previous satellites were launched in 2024 from California. The company plans to test voice and data services later this year.
