SpaceX launched 29 Starlink satellites from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex 40 on Wednesday. The mission marked the company’s fourth Starlink launch of the year and the 12th overall since 2019. The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off at 1:17 p.m. and deployed the satellites into low Earth orbit. The launch was visible from parts of Brevard County and the surrounding area. SpaceX said the satellites will expand broadband coverage to rural and underserved regions. The company has already launched over 3,000 Starlink satellites worldwide. Local officials praised the launch as a testament to Florida’s role in the space industry. ‘This is another example of how Brevard County continues to be a hub for innovation,’ said Brevard County Commissioner Julie Stewart. The mission followed a similar launch in March, which also targeted rural internet expansion. SpaceX plans to launch more Starlink satellites in the coming months as part of its goal to provide global broadband coverage. The company has faced some opposition from astronomers concerned about satellite visibility, but has worked with the Federal Communications Commission to mitigate light pollution. The launch was the first from Cape Canaveral since SpaceX’s last Starlink mission in January. The company’s next launch is scheduled for early next month, also from Florida.
