The numbers have raised questions about how the rapid increase in rocket traffic affects traditional air travel near the Kennedy Space Center. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is leading efforts to balance the needs of the booming space industry with the safety of commercial flights. "We have to make sure these operations don’t interfere with the national aviation system," Duffy said in a recent interview with Channel 9. The FAA is reviewing procedures for managing launch schedules and flight paths to avoid delays or hazards. The surge in launches has put pressure on local air traffic control systems. Officials say the frequency of rocket launches has increased so much that coordination between space agencies and airlines is now a daily challenge. At least three major airlines operate routes that pass within 20 miles of the Space Coast, and pilots report needing more frequent updates on launch windows.
