Smith, director of the Florida Space Institute. "This is driven by commercial demand and government contracts."
SpaceX plans to conduct 60 launches from its Cape Canaveral and Boca Chica facilities, including Starship test flights and Starlink satellite deployments. Blue Origin will launch 30 rockets from Kennedy Space Center, focusing on New Glenn missions. Rocket Lab will operate 20 launches from its Mid-Florida site, primarily for small satellite deployments. "The infrastructure is here, and the demand is there," said Mary Johnson, a local economic analyst. "This isn’t just about rockets—it’s about jobs and growth."
New facilities are set to open in 2026, including SpaceX’s Starbase expansion and a $300 million advanced manufacturing hub near Titusville. The Florida Legislature approved $3 billion in 2025 for space infrastructure upgrades, including port expansions and launchpad modernizations. Local officials estimate the space industry will generate 12,000 new jobs by 2027, with 60% of hires going to residents.
Residents near launch sites report increased traffic and noise, but many welcome the economic boost. "It’s noisy, but I’m glad my kids can work in aerospace," said David Morales, a retiree in Cocoa. "We’ve seen too many layoffs in the past decade." Environmental groups have raised concerns about rocket exhaust and wildlife disruption, but no major lawsuits are pending. Tourism is also expected to rise, with SpaceX’s Starship landings drawing international attention.
