The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra (SCSO) has released details for its 18th season, which will run from June 2026 through May 2027. The season includes nine world premieres, a restructured concert series, and a focus on American composers, according to a news release. Performances will take place in Indian River and Brevard counties, with the season opener scheduled for June 20 at The Scott Center at Holy Trinity in Melbourne. The SCSO will also host a free patriotic concert titled 'America, Together' in the fall, featuring three world premieres and a program honoring military service members.
The orchestra introduced four distinct concert series this season: 'The Epic,' 'The Live Playlist,' 'Limited Edition,' and 'Close Up.' 'The Epic' will highlight major works by renowned composers, while 'The Live Playlist' will blend film scores, Broadway music, and jazz. 'Limited Edition' will include guest artists and collaborations, and 'Close Up' will offer immersive experiences for younger audiences. The season’s opening concert, 'Sinatra & the Wonderful World of Oz,' will pair the SCSO Jazz Orchestra with a guest vocalist in a tribute to Frank Sinatra and the 1939 film.
The SCSO’s 18th season will also feature 'Lights Up on Broadway,' a concert celebrating Gershwin’s 'An American in Paris' with newly restored film footage and pianist Julian Bond performing 'Rhapsody in Blue.' The orchestra has committed to programming that emphasizes American composers, including works by contemporary and historical figures. Season tickets and individual concert tickets will go on sale in early June 2026.
The SCSO’s artistic director, Dr. Emily Carter, emphasized the importance of innovation in the new series structure. 'We want to make classical music accessible to everyone,' she said in a statement. 'Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the symphony, there’s something in this season for you.' The orchestra has also expanded its outreach programs, partnering with local schools to bring performances to students across the county.
