Space Coast's varsity softball team fell to Satellite 12-8 in a non-conference game on April 22 at Satellite High School in Satellite Beach. The Vipers, who entered the contest with an 11-12 record, were outscored in every inning except the second and third. Satellite, which improved to 10-15 on the season, scored eight runs in the second inning alone to take control early.
The game saw Space Coast struggle offensively, managing just eight hits compared to Satellite's 13. The Vipers' only lead came in the second inning when they scored two runs, but Satellite responded with eight unanswered runs in the same frame. Space Coast added two more runs in the third inning, but the damage was already done. Satellite tacked on two more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 11-4 heading into the fifth.
Space Coast attempted a rally in the fifth, scoring four runs to cut the deficit to 12-8, but could not overcome the early deficit. The Vipers finished with eight hits, led by junior shortstop Emily Ramirez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Satellite's offense was driven by senior catcher Sarah Lin, who had three hits and three RBIs.
The loss marks the third straight game Space Coast has failed to win against Satellite in the past four meetings. Head coach Maria Gonzalez said after the game that the team needs to improve its early-game execution. 'We can't let teams put up runs like that and expect to compete,' she said. The Vipers are scheduled to host Cocoa High School next on April 28.
