The Space Coast JV softball team extended its winning streak to 15 games with a 9-5 non-conference win over Cocoa Beach on March 10 at Cocoa Beach High School. The Vipers, who entered the game with an 15-0-1 record, outscored the Minutemen 9-5 in a contest that saw 14 total hits and 8 earned runs.
Space Coast pitcher Emily Carter struck out 6 batters and allowed only 3 earned runs in 5 innings of work, earning the win for the Vipers. The team’s offense came alive in the fourth inning, scoring 5 runs on 4 hits to take control of the game. Cocoa Beach, which fell to 8-8-2, managed to plate 3 runs in the fifth but could not overcome the deficit.
The Vipers’ 15-game winning streak is the longest in the program’s history, according to coach Sarah Mitchell. The team’s strong defensive play, including 6 total assists and 3 putouts, helped secure the victory. "We focused on executing our game plan early," Mitchell said. "Our pitchers did a great job keeping them off balance."
