Space Coast Credit Union has opened a new branch in Miami Gardens North, marking its first location outside Brevard County. The credit union, which serves over 200,000 members in the Space Coast area, now operates in Miami-Dade County as part of its growth strategy. The branch is located at 12345 NW 12th Avenue, a neighborhood with a population of more than 60,000 residents. The move comes as the credit union seeks to serve members who travel between Brevard and South Florida for work or leisure.
The new branch offers standard services including checking and savings accounts, loans, and financial planning. It is the credit union's 15th location overall and its first in Miami-Dade. Employees will be available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The branch manager, Maria Lopez, said the expansion reflects the credit union's commitment to accessibility. 'We want to make sure our members can access their accounts and get help whenever they need it,' she said.
The credit union has not disclosed the cost of the expansion or the number of jobs created. However, the branch will operate under the same cooperative model as existing locations, with no fees for basic banking services. Local officials praised the move as a sign of economic confidence. 'This shows businesses are investing in South Florida despite challenges,' said Miami Gardens City Commissioner Carlos Ramirez.
The branch will be open for walk-ins and appointments. Customers can also use online banking and mobile apps for transactions. The credit union plans to evaluate future expansion opportunities in the region after the first quarter of 2024.
