Trenton Brayboy of Rockledge High School clocked 17:57.70 to finish 4th in the 5000-meter run at the Merritt Island Cross Country meet, the best individual result for the school at the event. The competition, held at the Merritt Island Wildlife Management Area, drew teams from across Brevard County. Brayboy's time was just 25 seconds behind the winner, setting a strong mark for the Knights. Evan Caprioli placed 5th with a time of 18:22.70, while Ethan Roquevert finished 6th at 18:25.90. Both athletes will be key contributors as Rockledge prepares for regional qualifiers later this month. Matthew Mathusa, another Rockledge runner, crossed the finish line 11th with a time of 19:21.50. Senior SB Ben Barrera placed 19th at 21:29.90, and Logan Schooley rounded out the team's efforts with a 25th-place finish at 23:07.80. Coaches noted the team's consistency in the final kilometers, with several runners maintaining their pace through the challenging terrain. The meet, organized by the Brevard County Track and Field Association, included over 300 participants from 15 schools. Rockledge's head coach, Mark Thompson, praised the athletes' preparation. 'These times reflect weeks of focused training,' he said. 'We're building momentum for the postseason.' The event also featured junior varsity and varsity races, with Rockledge's girls' team placing in the top 10. Results will be posted online by the association within 48 hours.
