Rockledge's varsity baseball team fell to Satellite 10-9 in a conference game on April 10 at Satellite Beach High School. The Raiders, who entered the game with a 12-14 record, battled through seven innings but couldn't overcome the Scorpio's offensive surge. The loss marks Rockledge's third straight conference defeat this season.
The game remained scoreless through the first two innings before Satellite struck first with five runs in the bottom of the third. Rockledge responded with four runs in the top of the fourth, cutting the deficit to 5-4. The teams traded runs in the fifth and seventh innings, but Satellite held on for the win. Rockledge had 3 hits and 5 errors, while Satellite finished with 6 hits and 3 errors.
Satellite's starting pitcher, senior Ethan Price, pitched six innings and allowed just four runs on three hits. Rockledge's junior pitcher, Liam Carter, took the loss after giving up six runs on five hits in five innings. The game saw several key plays, including a two-run double by Satellite's Jake Ramirez in the third inning and a two-out RBI single by Rockledge's Connor Lee in the fourth.
The loss keeps Rockledge in a tight battle for a playoff spot in the conference. Coach Mike Thompson said after the game that his team needs to improve defensively. 'We made some critical errors tonight that cost us the game,' he said. Satellite, which improved to 14-12 on the season, will face Rockledge again in a rematch on April 17 at Rockledge High School.
