A free pet pantry in Palm Bay shut down last month after the landlord of the home where it operated said the nonprofit could no longer run a business from a residential property. Cortney Larson, founder of Isla's Journey Rescue, confirmed the closure and said the organization is now searching for a new location to continue providing food and supplies to pet owners in need. The pantry, which operated from a home on Australian Avenue, had been open for about a month and offered dog and cat food, treats, collars, and some medication at no cost. Larson said the nonprofit has enough donated supplies to keep the program running but needs a commercial space to relocate it. 'If we don't do it, who does?' Larson said. 'People rely on us now for these things, and it's not fair to them because we can't have it here, so we'll put it somewhere else.' The pantry allowed residents to take pet supplies they needed and donate items they no longer used. Larson said the nonprofit is looking for a small business willing to host the pantry and is also exploring ways to expand the program beyond Palm Bay. 'We hope to eventually grow this across the Space Coast,' she said. The closure comes as the nonprofit faces challenges in finding a permanent location but remains committed to serving pet owners who cannot afford basic necessities. Larson said the organization is working with local businesses and community members to identify potential sites for the relocated pantry. The nonprofit has not yet announced a timeline for reopening or expanding the program.
