A four-part PBS documentary series titled 'Once Upon a Time in Space' will debut on WUCF and PBS.org on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, marking the 15th anniversary of NASA's final space shuttle mission. The series will air weekly through Aug. 4, featuring archival footage and interviews with astronauts and space industry figures. The timing coincides with Florida's deep connection to space history and the nation's 250th birthday. The series includes interviews with NASA astronauts Charlie Bolden, Anna Lee Fisher, and Dan Tani, as well as cosmonauts Sergei Zalyotin and Alexander 'Sasha' Lazutkin. Jennifer Cook, executive director of WUCF, said in a press release that Central Floridians have a personal link to space exploration. 'Many of our neighbors helped build this story,' she said. 'We're proud to bring this remarkable series to the community that made it possible.' The premiere episode will air at 9 p.m. on WUCF and online. The series covers space history from the Cold War to modern commercial space companies. It is produced by the same team behind 'Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland' and 'Once Upon a Time in Iraq.' The documentary will highlight Florida's role in space missions, including the Kennedy Space Center and the legacy of the space shuttle program. Episodes will explore the experiences of astronauts, engineers, and families involved in space exploration. The series will air weekly on WUCF and be available on PBS.org for viewers across the country.
