A paraglider touched down on the shoulder of Interstate 95 just south of Cheney Highway in Titusville Sunday morning, but the pilot landed safely without injury, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputies confirmed. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. near the intersection of I-95 and Highway 50, according to a witness who captured the moment on video.
Joshua Perry, a local resident heading to a fishing trip, saw the paraglider moments before the landing. He told 321 Daily he noticed the pilot flying toward a group of other paragliders but then veered toward the highway. Perry said he saw the paraglider’s propeller stop spinning before the pilot descended. “I put the phone down and just watched,” Perry said. “It looked like he was trying to intercept the others, but then something went wrong.”
Deputies arrived quickly and confirmed the pilot landed on his feet without hitting the traffic. The wing remained clear of vehicles, and no one was hurt, according to a sheriff’s office statement. “He handled the situation well,” a deputy said. “The pilot was trained for this kind of emergency landing.”
Jonathan Carr, owner of Para Motor Orlando, said such landings are part of paragliding training. “Pilots practice emergency procedures regularly,” Carr said. “This looks like a textbook example of what they’re taught.” He noted that paragliders often use highways as emergency landing zones because of the open space.
The sheriff’s office said the crash remains under investigation. Authorities are reviewing the video footage and speaking with witnesses to determine why the pilot lost power. The paraglider was not immediately identified, and no charges are expected.
