The fire at The Compound in Palm Bay has reached 100% containment, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue. Officials confirmed the blaze was fully extinguished late Tuesday after burning for over 12 hours. The fire broke out around 10 a.m. near the intersection of Saturn Street and Jupiter Boulevard, a residential area within the 225-acre The Compound community.
Firefighters from multiple jurisdictions worked through the day to control the flames, which at one point forced the evacuation of about 50 homes. No injuries were reported, and all residents have since been allowed to return to their properties. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though officials said it was likely related to electrical issues.
The Compound, located just south of the Kennedy Space Center, is a mixed-use development with single-family homes, townhouses, and commercial spaces. The fire damaged several structures but did not spread to the broader community. County officials said crews focused on protecting nearby homes and preventing the fire from reaching the Indian River.
Residents described the effort as "intense" but praised the coordination between fire departments. "They worked nonstop," said one homeowner. "It’s good to know they’ve got it under control now." Fire Rescue said the containment effort involved more than 200 personnel, including crews from Melbourne, Titusville, and nearby counties.
As of Wednesday morning, crews remained on-site to monitor for hotspots and ensure the area stays secure. Authorities urged residents to stay vigilant and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately. The investigation into the fire’s origin is ongoing, with results expected in the coming weeks.
