A section of Indian River Drive in Palm Bay remains closed after a road collapse earlier this week, disrupting residents who rely on the private road. The damage occurred on a stretch maintained by the Palm Bay Estates homeowners association, which is now blaming the city for the failure. The road closure has left neighbors without access to their properties, with no timeline for repairs announced as of Wednesday morning.
The homeowners association’s president, John Martinez, said city infrastructure issues contributed to the collapse. Martinez pointed to drainage problems and aging city utilities as factors that weakened the road’s foundation. He said the HOA has repeatedly raised concerns with city officials about the road’s condition but claims the city ignored warnings.
City officials declined to comment publicly but confirmed they are working with the HOA to assess the damage. A joint team of engineers from the city and the association is inspecting the site to determine repair costs and responsibility. The city’s public works director, Lisa Chen, said in a statement that both parties are committed to resolving the issue but emphasized the need for a thorough investigation.
Residents like Maria Gonzalez, who lives on the road, said the closure has caused daily disruptions.
