A Palm Bay family awoke to an unusual sight early Monday when their home security system detected movement outside their house shortly before 4 a.m. Camera footage revealed a 7-foot-6-inch alligator standing on their front porch, hissing and striking the door and wall with its tail. The homeowners said the reptile remained outside but displayed aggressive behavior, prompting them to stay inside and call for help. No one was injured during the encounter.
The Palm Bay Police Department arrived at the residence and worked with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to safely remove the alligator. Officials said the animal was taken away without incident. The homeowners credited their security cameras with alerting them to the alligator's presence, noting that without the alert, a family member or pet could have unknowingly encountered the animal.
Wildlife officials emphasized that alligators are common in Florida, especially near water sources like lakes, ponds, and canals. They advised residents to avoid approaching any alligator that appears threatening and to contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission or local law enforcement instead.
