The loss extends Palm Bay's season record to 18-8, while Satellite improves to 12-15. The game, played in front of a packed crowd at Satellite's gym, saw the hosts dominate in the first and fourth quarters.
Satellite scored 19 points in the first quarter, outpacing Palm Bay's 14. The Pirates closed the gap slightly in the second quarter with 16 points, but the Scorpio's 12 points in the third quarter proved decisive. Palm Bay scored 13 points in the final quarter but couldn't overcome the deficit.
The game marked the first meeting between the two Brevard County schools this season. Satellite, which has struggled with consistency this year, showed strong defensive play throughout the contest. Palm Bay's offense, led by senior guard Jordan Miller, struggled to convert from beyond the arc, hitting just 6 of 24 three-point attempts.
Coach Mike Thompson of Palm Bay said after the game that his team needs to improve its shot selection and defensive rebounding. 'We gave up too many second-chance points,' he said. 'But we're still in the hunt for a playoff spot.' Satellite's coach, Lisa Ramirez, praised her team's resilience. 'We've been working on our quarters play all season,' she said. 'This shows we can compete with anyone.'
The loss drops Palm Bay to third place in the Space Coast Conference standings. The Pirates host Cocoa next week, while Satellite travels to Melbourne for a key matchup against Westminister Academy.
