The City of Palm Bay is launching improvement projects at Driskell Park and Liberty Park using Community Development Block Grant funds, beginning April 27. The work includes renovations to restrooms, playgrounds, and accessibility features, with temporary closures expected through June 30. Driskell Park at 2155 Monroe St NE will be fully closed during construction, while Liberty Park will have partial closures. City officials say the upgrades aim to modernize facilities and improve visitor safety.
Driskell Park’s restroom building will undergo a complete interior renovation, including new tile and upgraded amenities. Exterior improvements will also be made to the structure. Liberty Park will see new playground equipment, accessibility upgrades, and landscaping. Both parks will have detours and signage to guide visitors during construction. The city estimates Driskell Park will reopen by June 30, with Liberty Park’s phased work expected to finish by the same date.
The projects are part of a broader effort to maintain public spaces across Palm Bay. City Manager Lisa Martinez said the work addresses long-standing maintenance needs. “These upgrades will make the parks safer and more functional for families and residents,” she said. The city has posted closure details on its website and social media, urging visitors to check for updates before heading to the parks.
Funding for the projects comes from federal CDBG grants, which require local matching contributions. The city has allocated $1.2 million for the work, with additional funds from the 2025 municipal budget. Officials emphasized the importance of community input during planning, holding public meetings in late 2025 to gather feedback on priorities.
