More than 300 graduates walked across the stage at Palm Bay Magnet High School’s commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 23. The event took place at the school’s main auditorium, where families, teachers, and community members gathered to celebrate the Class of 2026. Despite temperatures reaching 92 degrees that afternoon, the mood was upbeat, with students and guests wearing caps and gowns, and some even holding small fans to stay cool.
The ceremony began with a welcome speech from Principal Maria Lopez, who highlighted the class’s achievements. ‘These students have overcome challenges, excelled in STEM and arts programs, and will continue to make their mark,’ she said. The auditorium erupted in applause as each graduate received their diploma. Among the honorees were 12 students selected for the National Honor Society and 25 who earned distinctions in advanced placement courses.
Parents and teachers lined the aisles, some wiping sweat from their brows as they cheered. ‘It’s hot, but this is what we’ve been waiting for,’ said James Carter, father of graduate Emily Carter. ‘My daughter worked her tail off in robotics and marine science. She’s heading to MIT next year.’
The event included a performance by the school’s jazz band and a video montage of senior memories. The final speaker was graduate and valedictorian Samira Patel, who thanked teachers and peers. ‘We’re not just leaving this school,’ she said. ‘We’re carrying its values with us.’
Photos from the ceremony are available on Florida Today’s website. The school plans to host a post-graduation picnic at the Palm Bay Community Center on June 5.
