Orlando Health has unveiled plans to construct a 240-bed hospital and a 60,000-square-foot medical office building in Viera, Florida. The project will be located on a 40-acre campus in Borrows West, between Lake Andrew Drive and Interstate 95, just south of Viera Boulevard. The health system expects to break ground this month and open the emergency department in the fall of 2027. The hospital will include emergency services, imaging, surgical suites, and other acute care facilities.
The new hospital will be part of a phased development on the campus, which will also house specialty medical practices focused on cardiovascular health and neurosciences. Orlando Health is partnering with The Viera Co. on the expansion. Ohme Entin, president of Orlando Health East Region, called the project "an exciting day for this region" in a press release.
The facility will create more than 1,000 jobs, according to Orlando Health. The hospital is expected to open in phases, with the first phase focusing on the emergency department. The medical office building will be completed after the hospital's full construction.
The project comes as healthcare systems across Central Florida compete to expand services in growing areas. Orlando Health currently employs more than 2,000 people in Brevard County. The new hospital will be the first in the region for the health system, which operates several other hospitals in the area.
Construction is set to begin immediately, with the emergency department slated for completion in late 2027. The full hospital is expected to be operational by 2029. The project will include a seven-story hospital and a three-story medical office building. The health system said the facility will enhance access to care for residents in Brevard County.
