One Senior Place in Viera is celebrating 20 years of helping seniors and their families manage healthcare, insurance, and housing challenges. The nonprofit agency opened its Viera location in 2004 and expanded to Altamonte Springs in Seminole County in 2013. Carol and Bill Jungbluth, regular visitors to the Viera center, said the service has become essential for navigating the complexities of aging. 'We come here whenever we need help,' Bill Jungbluth said. 'It’s like having a team of experts in one place.'
The agency offers free assistance with Medicare enrollment, long-term care planning, and senior housing options. Staff members work one-on-one with clients to address individual needs. Maria Sonnenberg, a Florida Tech professor and Space Coast Living contributor, noted the agency’s role in the community. 'They’ve adapted over the years but kept their core mission,' she said. 'That’s rare in any field.'
One Senior Place serves more than 5,000 seniors annually across both locations. The Viera center alone handles about 3,000 cases each year. Services include help with insurance claims, connecting clients to local resources, and providing legal aid referrals. 'People often don’t know where to turn,' said a program director. 'We’re here to fill that gap.'
The agency plans to expand its outreach in 2025, focusing on increasing awareness of its services. It hosts monthly workshops on topics like fraud prevention and estate planning. Despite its growth, the organization remains focused on personalized support. 'We don’t just hand out information,' said a spokesperson. 'We make sure each person understands their options.'
