Cocoa Beach police and SWAT officers blocked off a shopping plaza near the Cocoa Beach Library early Monday after an incident at a kava bar led to one person being taken into custody. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at the Calm Collective Kava Bar, located in the plaza at 625 N. Atlantic Ave. A Facebook post from the Cocoa Beach Police Department said the area was blocked off to allow officers to investigate. 'At this time, the incident is contained; however, we ask that the public avoid the area,' the post read. SWAT officers were seen at the site, with police cars parked in and around the Dollar General store's parking lot. Brevard County Sheriff's Office units also responded to the call. The police department did not disclose details about the incident or the person in custody. The shopping plaza is just north of the Cocoa Beach Library. Officers remained at the scene through late Monday morning. No injuries were reported. The Calm Collective Kava Bar is one of several businesses in the plaza. Police said the investigation was ongoing and urged residents to stay away from the area. A spokesperson for the Cocoa Beach Police Department did not immediately return a call for comment. The incident is the latest in a series of police actions in the area this year.
