A nighttime lane closure on U.S. 1 in Melbourne will take effect Tuesday, October 2. The left lane of the northbound side of the highway will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. as part of resurfacing work. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes during the closure. The project is expected to last through early November.
City officials confirmed the closure is necessary to complete repairs to the road surface. The work is part of a larger effort to address potholes and cracks along the corridor. A city spokesperson said the timing was chosen to minimize disruption to daytime traffic. "We understand the inconvenience, but this is a critical step to ensure the road remains safe," the spokesperson said.
The closure will impact traffic near the intersection of U.S. 1 and Lake Mary Road. Detour signs will be in place, directing drivers to use State Road 523 and other nearby roads. Local businesses along the route have been notified, and some have adjusted their hours to accommodate reduced traffic flow.
