Nemours Children’s Health held a groundbreaking ceremony on April 17, 2026, for a new 34,000-square-foot multi-specialty care facility in Melbourne. The event brought together leaders from Nemours, local residents, elected officials, and healthcare advocates. The facility is expected to open in summer 2027.
Martha McGill, BSN, MBA, MHA, Central Florida Region President of Nemours Children’s Health, called the groundbreaking an exciting milestone. She said the project aims to elevate care for children and families in Melbourne and surrounding areas. Nemours Children’s Health operates Central Florida’s only specialty licensed children’s hospital.
The new facility will offer a range of pediatric services. It will be located in Melbourne, not Viera as initially stated. Local officials emphasized the importance of expanding healthcare access in Brevard County. The project is part of Nemours’ broader effort to bring world-class care closer to patients.
Construction is set to begin immediately. The facility will include outpatient clinics, diagnostic services, and specialty care. No specific details about funding or job creation were shared during the ceremony. The project is expected to take about 14 months to complete.
