NASA and SpaceX are targeting May 12, 2026, for the launch of the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. This mission, the 34th under NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services contract, will use a Falcon 9 rocket to deliver supplies to the International Space Station. The launch window opens at 4:30 p.m. EDT, with weather forecasts currently showing a 60% chance of favorable conditions, according to the U.S. Air Force’s 45th Weather Squadron.

The mission will carry over 7,000 pounds of scientific equipment, food, and other materials to the space station. Experiments aboard include studies on plant growth in microgravity, cancer research using 3D-printed human tissue, and tests of a new water recovery system. These payloads are part of NASA’s ongoing efforts to advance research in biology, biotechnology, and Earth science. SpaceX has conducted 33 resupply missions since 2012, with a perfect success rate in cargo delivery.

Launches from Brevard County have become a regular part of life for many residents. Kathy Smith, a teacher at Titusville’s Kennedy Middle School, said students often track launches through the school’s astronomy club. "It’s inspiring to see our community tied to space exploration," she said. The area’s proximity to Cape Canaveral has made it a hub for aerospace activity, with SpaceX and ULA both operating launch pads in the region.

The mission follows a recent SpaceX test flight of the Starship spacecraft in March, which ended in a controlled explosion at Boca Chica, Texas. NASA officials emphasized that the Dragon’s systems have undergone rigorous testing, including a recent uncrewed test flight in January that successfully docked with the space station. The resupply mission is expected to take about five days to reach the orbital laboratory, with astronauts scheduled to unload cargo within 24 hours of arrival.
