Minot State University's softball team is heading to Viera, Florida, for the Space Coast Spring Games, where they will play eight games over six days starting Monday. The Beavers' first game is against Malone University at 10 a.m. (ET), followed by a matchup with Ursuline College at 2:30 p.m. (ET). The tournament includes games against D'Youville University, Thomas More University, Saint Anselm College, Goldey-Beacom College, Felician University, and Southern Connecticut State University. The team will conclude the trip Saturday with two games. Minot State enters the tournament with a 9-3 overall record after splitting a non-conference doubleheader against the University of Jamestown on Feb. 26. The Beavers won the first game 9-0 in five innings, with junior pitcher Katie Newberry striking out nine batters and allowing just two hits. Offensively, Sara Van Wickler, Maizy Whitlow, and Brooke Hyde each had two hits, and the team scored nine runs in the third inning. Jamestown won the second game 9-2, ending Minot State's five-game winning streak. Anna LaCount and Navi Brinkerhoff each drove in runs for the Beavers, but Jamestown scored three runs in the first inning and pulled away. The team will aim to build on its strong start as it begins tournament play Monday. Players mentioned include Newberry, Van Wickler, Whitlow, Hyde, LaCount, and Brinkerhoff. The Beavers' performance in Florida will be closely watched as they continue their season.
