The City of Melbourne has named Shane Leech as its new Fire Chief, effective immediately. Leech, who has spent his entire career with the Melbourne Fire Department, brings 28 years of experience to the position, including roles as Battalion Chief, Division Chief, and Deputy Chief. He has served as interim fire chief since July 2025, following the retirement of former Chief Chuck Bogle.
City Manager Jenni Lamb praised Leech’s deep understanding of the city’s operations and his commitment to residents. “Shane Leech will be an exceptional Fire Chief for the City of Melbourne,” Lamb said. “He has extensive knowledge of the city and how it operates, plus he is deeply committed to the citizens of Melbourne.”
Leech expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying he is honored to lead the department. “I am committed to working alongside the dedicated men and women of this department as we continue to deliver the highest level of fire and emergency services to our community,” he said. His leadership comes as the department faces ongoing challenges, including increasing call volumes and the need for modernized equipment.
Separately, the Space Coast Association of Realtors Foundation awarded $30,200 in grants to four local nonprofits in February. Recipients included the Children’s Advocacy Center of Brevard ($10,000), Brevard County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association ($5,000), Club Esteem ($10,000), and New Life Mission ($5,200). The foundation, which funds programs addressing housing, education, and youth development, said the grants reflect its members’ commitment to the community.
