The Bulldogs responded with a third-quarter surge, scoring two goals to cut the deficit to 6-5, but Merritt Island closed strong with two fourth-quarter goals to seal the win. Melbourne’s offense struggled throughout, managing just two first-half goals and failing to capitalize on multiple scoring chances in the second half.
Melbourne head coach John Carter said after the game that his team’s lack of execution in key moments cost them. “We had opportunities to tie the game, but we didn’t convert,” Carter said. “Merritt Island played disciplined defense and made the plays when it mattered.” Merritt Island coach Sarah Linfield praised her team’s composure. “We stuck to our game plan and executed when it counted,” she said.
